The Georgia Shrimp Company opened in
Peachtree City in 2005. In the seven years it has been open, owner Ant Murphy
has expanded it twice. “Three years ago, we doubled in size and on Dec. 1
of last year we opened Murph’s Bar,” Murphy said. “We’re now three times
our original size.” That kind of growth is only possible because of the
reception it has received from area residents and that reception is based on a
reputation for great food, service and entertainment in a warm, friendly
atmosphere.
The newest addition, Murph’s Bar,
hopes to continue to build on that reputation. It is a tapas bar where
people can come in purely for tapas and to watch a game on the enormous, high
definition televisions, or get a drink while waiting for a seat in the
restaurant.
“It has been very well received so
far,” said Murphy. “It’s a great place to catch up with friends or enjoy
what is the only non-smoking sports bar in town.”
Some of the tapas items that have
already found legions of fans include the Lamb Sliders, the Asian Tuna Tartar
and the Bigg City Heart Attack Cheese Fries.
The Georgia Shrimp Company also
continues to provide top notch dishes and daily seafood specials as well as live
entertainment Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. There is also live
entertainment on Saturday nights beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Part of The Georgia Shrimp Company’s
expansion has included the patios out front and there may be more growth there
in the future as well. “It is great in the spring and summer to be able to sit
out there and enjoy the music,” Murphy said. “It sounds great outside.”
The sights and sounds at The Georgia
Shrimp Company are an asset but the main draw continues to be the menu. Murphy
and Sean Baur, Head Chef and General Manager, are always trying new things with
the menu, usually introducing the items at events like their monthly wine dinner
and placing the dishes that do very well on the menu. The daily specials always
feature fresh fish and often two different types to introduce the clientele to
new dishes featuring their innovative sides and sauces.
Among the more popular items at The
Georgia Shrimp Company are the Shrimp Grits Antonio, Bigg City’s Killer Spicy
Pasta and the Chicken and Shrimp Peri Peri. However, Murphy has seen lots of
customers go for the recently introduced seafood skillets, which offer a great
variety. For instance, the Fresh Skillet offers three fillets of fresh
fish of the day in a hot skillet with lemon rice, while the Seafood Skillet,
which Murphy states is “hard to beat,” offers Calamari, mussels marinara, fried
oysters and grilled prawns. The Skillet Extravaganza is the big one, offering
grilled shrimp, grilled Cajun mahi mahi, fried oysters topped off with Bigg
City’s crab cake and a 6oz lobster tail which they sub with half of a 20oz Maine
lobster when available.
Murphy and his staff are focused on
providing consistently good food and service, while keeping the atmosphere warm
and comfortable.
The Georgia Shrimp Company opens at
11 a.m. every day and Murph’s opens at 2 p.m. guaranteeing that there is always
a place for customers to go between 11 a.m. and 11p.m. In addition to daily fish
specials, there are also specials at Murph’s including $2 off martinis and buy
two tapas items get one free from 2-6 p.m. Murphy stated that Fayette County has
been good to The Georgia Shrimp Company and he hopes the restaurant will
continue to grow and be a popular
destination for the residents of the county for many years to come.
